Trip to Nature PreserveThe goal today was to go to a nature preserve to take pictures, but it took us until early evening to get there, and besides, I saw a real nice temple I wanted to photograph, so I spent more time doing that than anything else. |

Engrish. Read the last couple of lines. Wow. A (Buddhist?) temple in Taipei. Inside reminded me more of an amusement park than a temple. There were guys on stage teaching dances to children with an audience of parents with cameras and a loudspeaker system. Cotton candy. Shops selling trinkets. But then, every now and then, a group of people would go by with incense sticks and bowing and praying to some shrine or another to remind you that you really were in a temple. The dominant religion here (turn on ethnocenticism filter) involves buying a type of fake money and burning it to either make your dead ancestors more rich, or to ward off ghosts that are bringing you bad luck. Whoah. Freaky tree. Gotta snap a pic. More photos of the temple. The second picture seemed to be the area with the least trinket-selling and picture-taking, so I actually didn't venture in there. Fenny wouldn't accompany me into the temple, probably because she's Christian, so I wasn't sure if I would be committing a faux pas by wandering in there. Too bad, looked like it could've made for some cool photos. Even temples undergo construction. Bamboo framework, though? I actually found some areas where no touristy sorts seemed to go. It seems like these were not verboten areas, but just areas that were less popular than the main courtyard or small shrines around it. The last set of pictures of the temple. A rock. A fountain as seen through a colourful dragon body. Or was it a dragon body...? Actually, we didn't go here to visit the temple, above. It was just a diversion for me. We actually went to this bird-watching nature preserve. It was also quite touristy, with a lot of candy-selling and such. In the first picture, we see two children... uh... fishing in the mud? I'm not sure, but they really seemed to know what they were doing, so maybe there was actually some critter living in the holes in the ground or something. Personally, I thought it was a riot, so I snapped a pic. Then, there are some mountains, hills, and lakey-like stuff. Sunset and Fenny and I. Just trying to capture the moment. Here, you can see the temple where I was just. Bored, but I gotta snap pics. Let's get Fenny doing interesting things. Toward the end of this series, Fenny is whopping me on the legs with a plastic bag full of trash. She is bored, too. Taiwanese tourists at the nature preserve. I like the Flamingo Family there at the end. The last nature preserve pic you'll be afflicted with. |
